HEART MATTERS
The August 2026 New Moon in Leo, on August 12th, is a powerful Total Solar Eclipse at 20° Leo. This is not an ordinary New Moon.
Solar Eclipses are moments of profound transition, when one chapter begins to disappear so another can emerge. And this eclipse carries an especially strong theme of endings and beginnings: it is the first Leo eclipse on the South Node, bringing a process of release, dissolution, and karmic completion.
Something is ready to be eclipsed, perhaps it is an old version of you, a role you have been playing or a life you have outgrown.
Or a story about who you are supposed to be that no longer feels true. And yet, this eclipse isn’t only about endings. Jupiter is also in Leo, bringing expansion, vitality, generosity and possibility to the story unfolding now. So something may be ending precisely because something much bigger wants to begin.
This is the paradox of a South Node eclipse: you make space by letting go. And what begins in that space may have far more life in it than what you have been trying to hold onto.
This eclipse offers a powerful moment to consciously release what has run its course and make space for what wants to emerge. If you’d like a companion for that process, the New Moon Ritual Guide will gently guide you through creating intentions that feel aligned with what you truly want to grow.
What Happened Last Time?
The last time the Lunar Nodes activated Leo and Aquarius was between 2017 and 2018. That doesn’t mean the exact same events will happen again, but eclipses often work in chapters. Something that began, shifted, ended or awakened in your life around that time may now be reaching another stage of its story.
Think back.
– Who were you then?
– What did you want?
– What were you trying to become?
– Where were you compromising yourself?
– What was beginning that you couldn’t yet understand?
And perhaps most importantly: what did your heart know then that you weren’t ready to listen to? Nine years later, you may be standing at the edge of a very different version of yourself. The question is not whether you have changed, because you have. The question is whether your life has changed enough to reflect who you have become.
The Heart Matters
Leo is ruled by the Sun. It is the centre of our solar system, the source of light, warmth and vitality. And symbolically, Leo speaks to the centre of us too, the heart.
The heart doesn’t always care about logic. It doesn’t ask whether something makes sense on paper, it responds to feeling, to inspiration, to desire. To the little spark that says:
This.
Even when you can’t explain why. This is why following your heart can be so frightening. Because sometimes the heart asks you to leave what is familiar before you know what comes next. It asks you to walk away from the safe and to risk being seen. To choose what makes you feel alive rather than what makes you look sensible.
The lion is brave.
But courage isn’t the absence of fear, it is the willingness to follow what matters even when the path ahead is unknown. So this week, slow down enough to listen, not to what you should want, not to what would make the most sense and not to what everyone else thinks is a good idea.
Instead, ask yourself:
If I had no past, what would truly light my heart?
What Is Ready to Be Eclipsed?
Because this is a South Node eclipse, the invitation isn’t simply to dream about the future. It is to release what cannot come with you.
In Leo, this can be particularly personal.
You may be ready to let go of:
What is performative — what you do for an audience but no longer do for yourself.
What makes you shrink — hiding your light to avoid being judged, criticised, envied or misunderstood.
What you’ve outgrown — something that once lit your spark but now leaves you feeling caged, restless or hungry for something more.
Where joy has disappeared — situations where desire, passion and purpose have quietly drained away.
What siphons your vitality — people, habits, beliefs or patterns that take more creative and emotional energy than they give back.
The question isn’t:
“What’s wrong with me?”
It is:
“What am I no longer willing to carry?”
Because sometimes the thing that needs to end isn’t a circumstance. Sometimes it is the version of ourselves we needed to become in order to survive that circumstance.
The New You Has Already Been Whispering
Every ending contains a beginning that has not yet become visible. This is where the eclipse becomes particularly powerful. Something new may already be trying to emerge. A different way of expressing yourself, a creative desire, a relationship with more joy, a dream you stopped allowing yourself to want or a version of you that feels more alive, more visible, more courageous.
Perhaps you’ve sensed it for a while. But something has kept it in the shadows: fear, loyalty to the past, the need for approval, or the belief that you need to have everything figured out first.
The eclipse asks:
What new version of me has been waiting in the shadows?
And:
Which old version of me am I finally ready to outgrow?
You don’t need to have all the answers yet. You only need to notice where the spark is.
Jupiter in Leo reminds us that what is beginning now can grow. There is more life available. More creativity. More visibility. More joy. More room to become yourself. But first, the cage has to open.
August 2026 New Moon in Leo: Heart Matters
The August 2026 New Moon is both an ending and a beginning. A grand reset. A moment when something old is eclipsed so something more alive can emerge. And because this eclipse activates the Leo–Aquarius axis, the story unfolding now isn’t only about who you are.
It is also about where you belong, how you express yourself, and the place you are willing to take up in the world.
The inner work begins now.
The first signs may appear over the next six months, while the deeper story continues to unfold over the next year and a half. So don’t rush to define what is happening.
Listen.
Notice what is losing its grip. Notice what keeps calling you. Notice what makes your heart beat a little faster.
You can begin here:
– If I had no past, what would I choose now?
– What am I doing for approval that I no longer want to do for myself?
– What part of me has been waiting to come out of the shadows?
– What would I choose if I trusted what lights me up?
The heart knows when something is alive. And sometimes that is enough. Because one day, the thing your heart knew before it made sense to your mind will make more sense than common sense ever could.
This eclipse is an invitation to be brave enough to follow it.
With love and care,
Ester
